Certainly don’t dive in and think that this is definitely the end of the relationship as you are talking about men here. It’s pretty common for men to let you know exactly what they are feeling and not beat around the bush. Men in addition will not try to hide their feelings and don’t have a hidden agenda.
Women do tend to read too much into situations, but you shouldn’t as things will smooth a lot better if you just believe what he says.
He is keen to have a break. He needs some time apart from the relationship to work out where his life is truly taking him. That’s about as simple as it gets.
In this period where he rethinks everything in his life, he may well come to realize he needs you in it. Having a break for a bit can actually be a good thing as you learn to miss that person and realize that you need them.
So, basically when your boyfriend wants you to have a break from, it doesn’t always mean things are over, so don’t be too hasty in thinking that.

Firstly, you definitely don’t want to start hounding him and contacting him to get back together.
Don’t forget that it was him that wanted the time apart, so don’t go wading in trying to get him back immediately. He asked for time and space, so don’t crowd him. If you don’t listen to his request and start hounding him then you will drive a wedge between you.
If your boyfriend is serious about taking a break, then sit down and have a frank and open conversation with him. Only when both of you have voiced your concerns and thoughts on the matter, should you tell him that you will do what he asks and leave him alone for a bit to work through things.
Begin by agreeing to a trial period of say between 2 and 4 weeks where you can both have a break from one another. After this initial cooling off period is over, then make plans to meet for a drink and see where things stand.
Try not to concern yourself during the month period with what’s going on with your relationship. Use the time you’ve got as well to have a think about where your life is heading. Make an effort to work out whether you are better off single or in a relationship.
Although it can be hard, when he breaks up for a bit make sure you don’t start contacting him all the time. You could both benefit from this enforced break as you will know by the end whether you want to carry on with it or finish it.
